Prince George’s African American Museum and Cultural Center
Saturday, May 7 ∙ 3:00 pm ∙ Free but Registration Required
A very special book reading of Historically African American Leisure Destinations Around Washington, D.C. by Patsy Fletcher.
From the late nineteenth to the mid-twentieth century, African Americans in the Washington, D.C. area sought leisure destinations where they could relax without the burden of racial oppression. Local picnic parks such as Eureka and Madre’s were accessible by streetcars. Black-owned steamboats ferried passengers seeking sun and sand to places like Collingwood Beach, and African American families settled into quiet beach-side communities along the Western Shore of Maryland. Author and public historian Patsy M. Fletcher reveals the history behind Washington’s forgotten era of African American leisure.    Adams Morgan Free Summer Concert Series 2016 Flyer

The Wizard of Oz Family NightThe Wizard of Oz {Review & BOGO Discount Offer}

The National Theater
Through May 15, 2016
The Wizard of Oz is a captivating adaptation featuring new songs by Tim Rice and Andrew Lloyd Webber. The show has a stunning set; and the vibrant cast of color makes it apparent “You’re not in Kansas anymore!” This unlikely group of friends features the incredible and alluring voice of Dorothy (Sarah Lasko), the delightful humor of the Lion (Aaron Fried), the toe-tapping Tin Man (Jay McGill), the warm-hearted Scarecrow (Morgan Reynolds), and the darling Toto (Nigel). Not to be missed is the hypnotizing Wicked Witch of the West (Shani Hadjian) with her dancing flying monkeys. Their “moves” provided a little humor and made them a lot less scary for my 4 year-old.
This show is “Worth Every Buck”, I encourage you to experience the familiar journey that warms our hearts and reminds us, “There’s No Place Like Home!” [Read the full #DCTMReview HERE]

The Wizard of Oz Family NightThe Wizard of Oz {Review & BOGO Discount Offer}
