Culinary Circle Pizza Selection: Rustic Italian Style Pizza

Purchased at: Shoppers Food & Pharmacy – 6111 Livingston Road, Oxon Hill, Maryland 20745

Prepared: November 17, 2013

Preparation (based on instructions): Easy

Pizza Presentation (how did it look cooked?): Pretty Good

Smell: Neutral

Sauce:  Pretty Good

Crust:  Perfect

Flavor:  Pretty Good

Overall Quality:  Pretty Good

Would you recommend Culinary Circle Pizza to someone?  Agree

Please describe your Culinary Circle frozen pizza experience.

The crust was excellent–much better than other frozen pizzas. It was crispy and delicious and I noticed that the ingredients were only wheat flour, water, EVOO, sunflower oil, salt, and yeast. The toppings were tasty, except there was an astounding amount of capers, probably 4 times as many as pictured on the box, so I had to take off a lot of them.  As a thrifty shopper, I can’t say the value is excellent.  The pizza cost $5 and was smaller than other frozen pizzas, whereas, you can get much larger, fresh, hot pizza like Little Ceasar’s or Domino’s for $5-$6.

Culinary Circle Pizza Selections: Ultra Thin Crust Supreme, Rising Crust Spinach and Mushroom

I was extremely excited to try the Culinary Circle Pizzas, especially since my friend The Junk Food Guy wrote a very positive, mouth-watering review of their Wood-Fired Crust pizza. I picked up two pizzas for $5 each at Shoppers, which had at least a dozen different varieties of Culinary Circle Pizzas. I settled on a Rising Crust Spinach and Mushroom (a vegetarian “white” pizza), and an Ultra Thin Crust Supreme (NOT vegetarian). If you’re looking for value or to feed a hungry crowd, note that the Rising Crust pizza was a hefty 30.3 ounces, compared to the 16.2 ounces that Ultra Thin Crust weighed in at, and the Rising Crust pizza also had a much larger circumference. Anyway, I decided to prepare the pizzas for lunch on a lazy Sunday. I literally tossed them directly on the center rack of the oven and waited about 20 minutes, at which point my house was filled with wonderful toasty aromas. The Thin Crust Supreme was a massive hit with my fiance, who praised its very crunchy crust and generous level of meat toppings. I preferred the Rising Crust Spinach and Mushroom. Again, it was the crust that was most impressive–it was puffy, light, and fragrant. The mozzarella was also surprisingly fresh-tasting, with a nice stringy, gooey texture. We had plenty of leftovers, too. My one complaint is minor–there weren’t many mushrooms on the pizza, and the ones that were there didn’t have much flavor–this is NOT a pizza for mushroom-lovers, despite its name.

To wrap my first guest review up, I would say that the Culinary Circle frozen pizzas are definitely a “Buy Again!”

The pizza tasted fairly well, but it did not have enough sauce for me and my family’s taste. The crust became hard after baking and I would prefer a traditional crust instead of thin. It also had a a lot of fat and I would have hoped for a heather option. I would not purchase it again, but for families that need a meal for a sleepover or after sports practice. It may work.
